Task 1 Compare and contrat (100 words)
Different cultures have varying ways of representing themselves. Animation offers insight into these through style, colour and subject matter. Svankmayor creates grotesque animations with political messages. Conversely, Joanna Quinn’s, 'Dreams and Desires Family Ties', humour is used as opposed to grotesque forms emphasising the human existence. Svankmayor’s 'Dimensions in Dialog', explores the intricate nuances of society’s expectations using a range of claymation and stop motion by alluring to the passing of time throughout history. In comparison, Quinn uses traditional cell animation to achieve a similar effect. 'Dimensions in Dialog' is aesthetically dark, whereas Quinn’s animation is bright and colourful.

Preparatory task 1: 5 bullet points
- It is like a social commentary how we are all part of cycle, we are all regurgitated masses
of each other and we will continue on this path until we are nothing more than rumble
and ruins - The later part of the animation could as a commentary on modern parents, how children
with divorced parents often feel as though they are being passed from one parent to
another, how it tears families apart. - The last part of the animation could be view as a commentary on how society sometimes,
how if someone breaks social norms then everything starts falling apart and eventually
society breaks down. - I don’t think it would work in a different medium because you wouldn’t get the same
effect: mushing together. So your brain is allowed to interpret as opposed to showing it. - I think the last bit is disturbing but becomes creative and fun, so it is a nice contrast. The techniques are really interesting for the last part, I don’t know how they managed to
make the objects come out of the mouths.
